Update STAT!

It has been a very busy month for this blogger, hence why I haven't had any new postings for over a month. Well, that is all about to change. I need to get back into the swing of things and what better way to do it than an update Entertainment blog. So let's get started.

Books - I still have 20 books to read by the end of the year. According to Goodreads.com, I am 1 book behind so I need to start reading more books. The last book I tried to read was The Rose Labyrinth by Titania Hardie.  I got to page 145 after 4 weeks and decided this was not a book for me. I kept trying to give it the benefit of the doubt but just when the story would get good, the characters would get some screen time, Hardie would rush right back to historical fiction information and lots of description that most of the time I had no idea why she was putting that information in there. It felt as if Hardie was tryiing to put a story in the middle of her research on 15th/16th century England.  I kept expecting something else to happen, something that would keep me engaged and Lucy and Alex did to a point but it wasn't enough. That is the 2nd book this year that I have had to stop before finished and before this, I have only never finished 2 other books in my life so that is sayiing something about this book. If anyone has read it and knows what happens at the end, please tell me because that part I do want to know but reading the rest of the book wasn't worth it to me.

Movies - This is sad to admit but I haven't seen a movie in quite a while. My girlfriend and I do have a bet on the Bruins/Canadiens playoff series however. She is a Canadiens fan and I am a Bruins fan so whichever team wins this series, the loser has to pay for dinner and a movie with both the dinner and the movie picked by the winner. So in about a week or 2 I will have seen a new movie and hopefully have a movie review for you.

TV - Season finales are coming up shortly so as they pour in, I will have updates here either in a blog specifically for season finales or as a seperate blog page so keep an eye out for that. I love this season of finales. It means some questions from the past season will be answered. And of course, new ones will emerge and make you think  all summer about what is going to happen to your favorite characters and will they be back next season. It is such a fun time because that is when my imagination starts to go crazy. What finale season also means is the start of the summer programs and for me that is great. I have Psych on USA, Eureka and Sanctuary on SyFy. And another great thing about season finale season, is that I can catch up on all of the shows that I need to catch up on like 5 more seasons of NCIS. I am almost through Season 3 just 2 more discs and then I get right into season 4. Can't wait for that.

Well, that about wraps it up for today. Look for another blog coming next week, hopefully with either a TV update or a book update. Au revoir!

Don't Lose the Magic: Shadowhunters Season 1

The Shadowhunter world is powerful. Not because of magic, steles, demons, or potions but of the emotions tied to every single character.  Cassandra Clare wielded such heartening characters in her books that bringing the world to the big and little screen seemed almost too much.  When the movie came out, it didn’t live up to the hype of many dedicated fans. Now with the show having gone through its 1st season (and the 2nd season on the horizon) the question is the same: can the producers of the show keep Clare’s world in tact and please everyone?  That is a resounding no. When the news first broke that The Mortal Instrument books series would be turned into a television show I was optimistic.  The feature film had a lot of buildup and hype. Unfortunately it did not live up to the majority’s expectations and fell flat when it was released.  I enjoyed it from a movie and entertainment viewpoint but when comparing it to the book it left something to be desired...

The Last Song

Before I begin this review, I must put a disclaimer. The only way I got through this movie was to look past Miley Cyrus as the lead. With that said, so starts my review. With imagination running out in Hollywood, producers have to look to other forms of entertainment for inspiration. Nicholas Sparks books have always been a very good place with hit movies such as A Walk to Remember, Message in a Bottle, and The Notebook. In 2010, Hollywood made 2 of his books into movies - Dear John and The Last Song starring Miley Cyrus and Greg Kinnear. Before seeing this movie, I made it a point to read  the book so I could compare the two mediums. This story wasn't a typical Sparks novel in the sense of about finding your true love. This is a story about the dysfunctional yet oddly functional relationship between an 18-year old teenage and her estranged father. Roni and her 10 year old brother come to live at their father's house in South Carolina, on the water, for the summer much to ...

The Intern - Can You Have It All?

*If you have not watched, proceed with caution. Spoilers ahead* The age old question: Can a woman have a successful career and a family without sacrificing either? In The Intern starring Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro, Jules (Hathaway) is the founder of About the Fit, a clothing company that went from startup to major corporation in 18 months.  She has a family - a stay-at-home husband who left his job so that Jules could run hers and a daughter.  Her company runs a Senior Internship program where they hire Ben (De Niro) to be Jules’ assistant. Ben is a 76-year-old widower who is looking to have some purpose in his life.  He is observant of everyone around him, most especially Jules. He admires Jules, her tenacity, her love of her work and her family, but he also sees that she is conflicted. Everyone around her (her daughter’s play group, her company’s investors) see her as a mother first and a businesswoman second. Throughout the whole movie, she struggles wit...
